Toothpaste Guide
Did you know that toothpaste dates back to ancient India, Egypt, and China, around 5000 BC? During this time, toothpaste was mainly composed of ground salt and mint leaves! That minty taste is still found in most toothpastes today, but the rest of the ingredients have come a long way.
Here’s our handy guide to different types of toothpaste and when you should use them:
-Cavity Prevention and Tooth Sensitivity
Let’s fight those cavities and tooth sensitivity! This type of toothpaste contains fluoride, which works to harden the enamel to keep your teeth strong and healthy. In addition, if you experience tooth sensitivity when consuming hot or cold foods, toothpaste containing fluoride will also help reduce the sensation.
-Teeth Whitening
It’s time to let your smile shine! A brighter smile can be achieved with teeth whitening toothpaste. Be careful though, some teeth whitening toothpaste use abrasive ingredients that can cause damage if you’re not careful. -Toothpaste for Children
This type of toothpaste uses a safe formula that is specially made for children, usually for children ages two and older. Dental decay can form as soon as your child’s teeth appear, thus is it important to make sure that your children are brushing them daily to keep them healthy. It is recommended for children to use a small pea sized amount and for them to bush their teeth under the supervision of an adult.
-Tarter Control
Plaque, caused by foods and drinks, can build up on your teeth over time and turn into tarter if not properly cared for. Tarter toothpaste works to help remove and prevent this tooth damaging bacterium from potentially creating cavities.
It is important to take care of your oral health daily and to visit our hygienists twice a year for a regular cleaning.
